On gaming the system…

I will never not fly from Friday to Friday.

EVER.

Our family is currently making our way back home from a spring break trip to GA/SC.

Our flight home has been delayed three times now. Probably weather related. I don’t know. I don’t really care, to be honest.

Why?

Because every single flight our family has taken together in the last two years has either been delayed or canceled

EVERY. SINGLE. TRIP.

It’s almost comical at this point.

Coming home from France, we got delayed – then canceled – during our layover in Madrid, which resulted in a two day stop in the city on the airline’s dime. Hotel, most meals, and our new fight – all covered by the airline. On top of that, our original flight was refunded. So basically we go to go to France for free, then got a short little trip to Madrid for free.

Coming home from Scotland, our flight was delayed which resulted in us missing our connecting flight in London. So we got yet another quick European adventure in London. At Christmas. Our hotel and meals were covered, and our new flight was revoked before we even had to ask…and it was on a better airline. We spent about 6 hours quite literally running through London, trying to see as much as we could. We saw a LOT. And I got a Princess Diana tea cup to round out my collection of British princesses!

Now we’re sitting in the USO in Savannah, patiently awaiting the departure of our flight to Dallas, which is currently 3 hours delayed. (As an aside, the USO is legit one of the best things about domestic air travel. Actually, it is the best thing about domestic air travel…free food and snacks, chargers galore, TV and movies, video games, books…it’s really hard to beat, especially when you have a long layover or delay.)

Every one of these trips, I have intentionally booked Friday – Friday. Because apparently, we tend to have travel interruptions at a ridiculous rate.

But every time, we’re arrived home in enough time to get back to school and/or work without any drama.

So yeah. Travel on Fridays. Maybe get a little extra “on the house” adventuring! Or even just a little extra downtime.
